Understanding the Possible Symptoms and Risks Factors of Cervical Spon

Today, most of the middle aged working population is commonly complaining about neck pain which is very normal with ageing. As we grow old, our bones lose strength and start breaking down because of which our neck becomes stiffer and hard to move. Generally, neck pain is termed as cervical spondylosis, neck arthritis or cervical osteoarthritis. Other than ageing, prolonged sitting, previous injuries or poor posture might also result in spondylosis symptoms.

Following are some of the symptoms of cervical spondylosis which you should know about:

  • Cervical problems are a result of aging. With growing age, disks within our neck which act like a cushion in-between vertebrae of spine, starts drying out and shrinks. These dehydrated disks result in stiffness and severe pain in neck.

  • Effects of ageing can be also be seen on the exterior of spinal disks in the form of cracks or swelling that affect the spinal cord and the entire nerve roots. This creates difficulty in turning the head completely or moving the neck up and down.

  • Severe headache because of neck pain.

  • Losing control over bladder and bowel processes.

  • One can also sense numbness, tingling and weakness in hands and legs, which is considered as a severe condition for which one must take immediate medical advice.

Other risks factors which can increase the problems associated with cervical spondylosis are as follows:

  • Aging is one aspect which is unavoidable and hence regular exercise can give some relief from day to day health issues.

  • Prolonged sitting jobs or jobs which include repetitive neck motion, awkward sitting positions or a lot of overhead work can result in extra stress on the neck which leads to neck pain.

  • In a few cases, pain in the neck is genetic in nature.

  • Apart from above stated factors, smoking is also considered responsible for increased neck pain.

There are many people who are unaware of cervical spondylosis symptoms but are suffering from the same condition. That is why it is very important to visit a doctor and take proper medication whenever one is experiencing any of the above mentioned symptoms.
