The surgery procedure
Liposuction requires a skilled and methodical approach. It is usually conducted on the patient by a highly skilled surgeon. Here is a brief overview of the surgery process –
1. Administering sedatives
Before the operation is conducted, sedative and anesthetic drugs are administered to the patient in order to make him or her inert during the operation procedure. Sometimes, localized versions of the sedatives are used to numb only a certain body area in case the scope of the surgery is restricted as such.
2. Creating surgical incisions
After administering the sedatives, the surgeon creates small surgical incisions on the region where the surgery is to be conducted. These usually range from 2 to 3 dozen in number and 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch in size depending on the operation.
3. Removal of the fat via vacuum suction
After creating the incisions, the surgeon proceeds to removing the fat deposits by inserting a slender tube known as cannula through the incisions and performing vacuum suction in order to suck in the fat. In certain cases, a syringe is used instead, to absorb the fat.
4. Closing the incisions
In the final step of the surgery, the surgeon removes the cannula from the opening made and works on closing the incisions. Sometimes, some of the incisions may be left open in order to mitigate the effects of skin bruising after the surgery.
